Reading about Amy Tan's story of Mother Tongue, made me think about my life. When I was in South America, I started school in elementary school, and the kid's brains are like sponges. When I started going to school, I was able to learn the language very fast. And my parents suffered a lot, because they were already adults and were not able to communicate in their businesses and etc. So I remember my father always took me to translate what he wanted to say. I was the translator. I was the only one to understand my father's expression to retranslate to the other party.
